A shout in the void...
It's not about the who will save the earth or when are we dying or the are we really dying???
It's about those countless efforts which are going in vain because we are all so blind to see what's actually going on around us or even if we are seeing, keeping a cool outlook towards it. I agree we do the occasional protests and the global strikes, but is it any useful if nothing of the planning and scheming is coming in practice?
We have been talking about it since the very beginning, metaphorically speaking what good is the script if it's not a movie yet? And even if it's on the verge of being a film; the actor is showing a tantrum, well that is putting it extremely lightly because in that case we can just change the actor and go around with it, but unfortunately things don't work out that easily.
So even after talking and discussing about everything; after all these activities going around the
world the one thing that I can actually say with full confidence is that we are nearly dead and if we don't and I mean this in the most SERIOUS SENSE that I can muster if we don't, if we SERIOUSLY don't do anything anytime soon, we are going to wave death "Hello" right in it's face.
It leaves me wondering, What has happened to the world? 'Burning rainforest', the VERY LITERAL lungs of the world and no one on face of the whole planet is even aware about this for three weeks! THREE WHOLE WEEKS! the so called "WORLD LEADERS" pretending to do amazing stuff while actually just sitting around forming and discussing and arguing about how much is it gonna cost them? and tweeting about how all of this is insignificant?
What actually amuses me is how the children of different nations around the globe are actually more aware and active about finding solutions and acting on them than the people in POWER. An excellent example that we have been using since the very beginning is that of the great GRETA, she's a living proof of how much our children are suffering because of us and our hazardous activities.
And now, I wouldn't hold myself back from saying this, but unfortunately, it wouldn't be all so wrong to call it CLIMATE CRISES, instead of Climate Change because the earth is no longer calling out for help, it's giving out death threats.
Some results and outcomes of the researches organised by leading institutes and environmental scientists, that are going around the world are mentioned below (in the bullet points) :
- As written by Nicholas Bakalar, A New York Times Journalist, 'Air Pollution', even at modest levels is deadly.
- An international team of researchers used data from 652 cities in 24 countries to correlate levels of particulate matter pollution with day-to-day mortality rates. The study, in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that as the concentration of particulate matter increased, so did the number of excess deaths.
- It is also proven that due to these there was an increase in morality rate in the States, which would roughly translate to an extra 178 deaths on a day.
Even after all this, the "leaders" are choosing to keep a blind eye towards the matter, because at the end of the day that's all we can do; provide them with facts and opinions and solutions, but it's all upto them.
While most of us don't have the power to make the air cleaner, there are a couple of ways to protect ourselves.
- Written in an article of the famous New York Times, Scientists have linked dirty air to a long list of health problems, and the danger can seem all the more frightening because, unlike with many other risks, we have no choice about breathing.
- Steps like changing travel and exercise routes, buying an air purifier and choosing not to light a fire at home can reduce your exposure to air pollution in any season, experts say.
- “It’s basically about awareness,” said Frank Kelly, director of the Environmental Research Group at King’s College London. “You need to understand where you’re being exposed the most, and then you need to be able to take measures to avoid that.”
- Black carbon and methane are air pollutants that are also responsible for 30-40% of global warming, according to atmospheric scientists with Unep (United Nations Environment Programme) hence altogether stopping their emissions, experts say, will prove to save people's health and also that of the planet.
- "The theory that if you cut down air pollution, it will help in reducing emissions of some of the greenhouse gases that cause climate change is quite sound," said Lesley Ott, an atmospheric scientist with Nasa.
- In an article by Karen Savage of the Climate Liability news, it was quoted that,“The great tragedy of the climate crisis is that seven and a half billion people must pay the price—in the form of a degraded planet—so that a couple of dozen polluting interests can continue to make record profits,” Penn State climate scientist Michael Mann told The Guardian.
As always, no protective measure, though, can substitute for policies and regulations that make the air cleaner. The best act for tackling pollution can be stated by one word: “Vote.”
or rather, 'VOTE WISELY!!!' Choose leaders who are aware and willing to work towards these matters with the much needed efficiency and intelligence.
