A shout in the void...

Image
It's not about the who will save the earth or when are we dying or the are we really dying??? It's about those countless efforts which are going in vain because we are all so blind to see what's actually going on around us or even if we are seeing, keeping a cool outlook towards it. I agree we do the occasional protests and the global strikes, but is it any useful if nothing of the planning and scheming is coming in practice? We have been talking about it since the very beginning, metaphorically speaking what good is the script if it's not a movie yet? And even if it's on the verge of being a film; the actor is showing a tantrum, well that is putting it extremely lightly because in that case we can just change the actor and go around with it, but unfortunately things don't work out that easily.  So even after talking and discussing about everything; after all these activities going around the  world the one thing that I can actually say with full confid...

Remember: Only One Earth!

Image
We have only one earth, we should protect it, not only for the earth, but for humans living as well. That's also the purpose of the "project changes". environmental protection is urgent.  The earth's limited resources are being rapidly consumed by unlimited human greed. In recent decades, people have been racking their brains trying to figure out how to earn more money, until the ecological environment has been almost destroyed, human beings have come up with the idea of sustainable development. However, tons of drinking water resources have been polluted because of people's disorderly disposal of sewage. The atmosphere has been destroyed and the global climate is warming because of the air pollution through the burning of coals. Patches of habitat for marine life have also been polluted by plastic. In the meantime, there are other irreversible phenomena that wreak havoc on the planet. The earth is already in tatters. But people always forget that the bas...

Taking A Closer Look Home...

Image
Home to a variety of different species of marine life, the Great Barrier Reef is in danger. As noted in our previous blog, the ocean plays an important role in our lives and are critical to our health. Expanding on such, the roles of the Great Barrier Reef include: Protect coastlines from waves and tropical storms. Provide habitat for marine life. Provide a source of nitrogen and other essential nutrients for marine life. Assist in carbon and nitrogen-fixing. Help with nutrient recycling.  From above, we can see that the Great Barrier Reef plays a significant role in our ecosystem but with our current climate crisis, it's becoming the "Not So Great Barrier Reef" as quoted by Simon. Taking a closer look home, the Great Barrier Reef's current main threat is climate change and poor water quality. As a result of such threats, if nothing is done within a decade, there will be some corals left but they won't be growing or functioning. Already from the ...

The Not So Great Barrier Reef: Ocean Pollution

Image
The oceans plays an important role in our lives and are critical to our health. The oceans have an impact on the temperature and weather, which results in determining floods, rainfall and droughts. In order to protect our oceans, we must prepare for an ongoing changing climate and to address the main causes of global warming that are putting our marine environment on the line of extinction. In order to improve our oceans, we must set achievable outcomes and achievable targets. Here are just a few things that are being done to save our oceans: - Improving water quality The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is advocating to put a legal cap on pollution. Laws and regulations like this need to be available in order for farm pollution to stop flowing into our oceans. - Coral bleaching on the Reef In order to slow down the warming of our oceans, we must attempt to switch to 100% renewable power by the end of 2035. If this is not attempted, The Great Barrier Reef will ...

Sustainable development.

Image
What does sustainable development mean? According to International Institute for Sustainable Development defined that "sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."  The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development sets 17 Sustainable Development Goals to be achieved by 2030. These are goals that nations around the world must work towards together. Why should human achieve sustainable development? 1. It can make people live a better living environment with improving living quality within the ecosystem capacity by achieving the sustainable development. 2. Decrease the rate of global warming and control climate change. 3. Produce more financially sustainable economies with rational development and utilization of resources.  4. Remain the biodiversity. 5.  Support the survival of human offspring and the continuation of life. What can h...

Current situation of Fast Fashion.

Image
With the rapid development of The Times the fast trend of updating, fast fashion came along. However, as The Huffington Post reported that the world consumes 80 billion pieces of clothing each year. People treat the clothes as disposable consumables. Furthermore, the sustainability consulting group Eco-Age pointed that fast-fashion clothes have been worn less than 5 times and only keep for 35 days on average before they are thrown away.  Fast fashion retailers cut corns and tried to use cheaper fabrics and dyes to decrease costs. Oil-based polyester, which is a synthetic petroleum-based that cannot be renewable, is going to instead cotton to produce the fast fashion clothes. With the use of cheaper materials, the fashion industry is becoming more polluted. According to the Institute of Sustainable Communication, the clothing industry is the second-highest polluter of clean water. With tons of waste water, the toxic chemicals are also discharged into the river, affecting water ...

Go green! Go clean!

Already it is obvious that our earth is facing a crisis with climate change but what can we do as humans? A simple solution would be to reduce our carbon footprint but how? Thankfully, Project Change is here and listed below are some ways we all can reduce our carbon footprint. 1. Stop eating (or eat less) meat By not eating or eating less meat, it will make a big contribution towards reducing the amount of greenhouse gas being released. Already agribusinesses release more greenhouse gases than fossil fuels. Research has shown that by reducing our meat intake, greenhouse gas emissions can be effectively reduced with red meat being the biggest culprit. Below you can see the different amount of carbon being released by meat-eaters and vegans with vegans releasing the least amount of carbon due to the fact that they don't eat meat/animal products.  2. Unplug your devices It's obvious that fossil fuels create energy when being burned, as a result, this releases ca...
